Ever wondered how much power does your mixer grinder use in a day? In this article we will calculate power consumption of a mixer.

The rated power of a mixer grinder is approximately 500 watt. If you use your mixer grinder for 1 hour daily it will consume 0.5 kWh of electricity in a day and 15 kWh of electricity in the entire month.

Mixer Grinder Rated Power:

Mixer grinder rated power is between 500 watts to 1000 watts. On an average most standard size mixer has wattage of 500 watt.

If you want to know your mixer exact wattage then look at the bottom of your mixer to find it’s wattage or just search your mixer in amazon and check the wattage in product description.

Power required to grind hard foods like coconut is more than soft food like tomatoes because to grind hard foods you will have to run your mixer for longer duration of time.

To use the mixer power consumption calculator and interpret the results correctly you need to know and understand the following four terms:

  1. Wattage: Wattage is the rate at which your grinder consumes power. A 500 watt mixer grinder uses 500 watt of power every hour. (Assume 500 watt for calculation).
  2. Operational Hours: Operational hours is the number of hours you are using your mixer grinder. For example if you use your mixer grinder only for one hour in a day then type 1 in the operational hours tab.
  3. Electricity Tariff: Electricity tariff is the amount your electricity provider charges you for one unit of electricity. I live in Mumbai, India here electricity tariff is Rs 12 / kWh. Type the electricity tariff in your area.
  4. Unit Of Electricity (kWh): The power consumed by any device is measured in units of electricity (kWh). For example a 500 watt AC running for 8 hours will consumes 500 watt X 8 hours = 4000 watt hours or 4 kWh of electricity.

Now that you know all the above parameter it’s time to use the calculator below.

How to interpret Power Consumption Results:

The above calculated value is an approximation and values might have a 10% error. Even though the wattage of mixer is high most of us normally use it for 20 minutes to 30 minutes once a week hence, power consumption is less and you should no worry about it.

To give you a rough idea, even if you use your mixer grinder everyday for 30 minutes it’s monthly power consumption will be just 8 kWh, which translates to an electricity bill of Rs 80 (assuming electricity tariff is Rs 10/kWh).

If you are not satisfied with an approximate value and want to know your mixer grinder exact power consumption then use a Kill A Watt meter.

Calculate Power Consumption Of A Mixer Using a Kill A Watt Meter:

Kill a watt meter is a simple device used to calculate power consumption of any device.

You can buy it from amazon using this link. Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor

To use the Kill A Watt meter first connect your mixer plug to the Kill A Watt meter and then plug the Kill A Watt meter in your wall socket.

Then start using your mixer grinder the way you do normally and you can see in real time how many kWh (units) of electricity your mixer is using.

Check out this tutorial video from altE to understand how to use a kill A Watt Meter to track your appliance energy consumption.

Conclusion on Power Consumption:

The wattage of mixer grinder is high but they are used for very small duration and too not frequently hence you can expect it to have very small impact on your electricity bill.
