Buying an air conditioner is confusing because of the crazy number of options available on the e commerce platform. To make AC buying somewhat simpler I have made this article on the best 1 ton window AC you can buy in India in 2020.
I have not tested any one of these AC’s (if you have read a blog which says they have tested AC’s then they are 100% lying) but I have researched over 40 one ton window AC’s and compare them under several parameters before finalizing this list.
Best 1 Ton Window AC To Buy in India:
I have compiled this list of 11 best one ton window air conditioner in India by comparing around 40 one ton window AC available on amazon based on the following parameters.
- Power Consumption – This is the most worrying aspect about air conditioners which most people have hence, I have given more emphasis on power consumption. Buying an air conditioner (AC) that consumes less electricity will give you enormous savings in electricity bill in long term.
- Brand Value – I have given emphasis on the brands presence in India. You will not find a single air conditioner from mediocre brands, only premium brands are considered. I believe it is better to pay more upfront for a product than at latter stages while using it.
- Product Reviews – All the AC’s in the list have got excellent reviews on amazon and other e-commerce sites. This is a testimony that these air conditioners are trustworthy and many people are buying it.
- Cost – If the air conditioner costs a fortune, then it’s not worth buying it. Hence I have only considered air conditioner that offer competitive pricing.
- Energy Saving Stars – If you are buying an air conditioner in 2020, then at least buy one which is rated by BEE with more than 3 stars. I have only considered air conditioner which has more than 3 energy saving stars. You can find the BEE star rating on the sticker which is normally in the front part of an air conditioner.
Now lets have a look at the list !!

To effectively use this table just click on the header of a column which is an important buying factor for you. For example, if power consumption of an air conditioner is important to you, then click on the annual units consumption column and the table will be filtered from lowest to highest power consumption or highest to lowest power consumption.
Note: I found few AC’s on amazon with great reviews but were old models from 2017 and 2018 hence, I have not included them in this list.
BEE calculates window AC annual energy consumption considering 1600 hours of operation in a year under standard operating conditions. The actual value will be less or more depending on the way you use your AC, climatic condition and operational hours.
As I said above the calculated values are for test conditions where outside temperature is 30 degree Celsius to 32 degree Celsius and AC is set at 26 degree Celsius to 28 degree Celsius . In real life the outside temperature is higher and inside temperature is much lower. Hence, you can expect 5 % – 10 % variation in the quoted power consumption.

The fact that you are reading this article means you have made up your mind on buying window AC, but for those who are open to suggestions here is a small comparison between window AC and split AC and when to use which one.
1 Ton Window AC Vs Split AC Comparison:
The basic difference between the window AC and the split AC is their make. Window AC are one single unit with all the components like compressor, evaporator, condenser fitted in it, there is no second unit.
Whereas a split AC has two units one is the evaporate unit which is the AC cabinet inside you room and the other is compressor unit which is kept outside your house. Now that you know the basic difference let’s compare them directly to know which one is better.
The below table shows direct comparison between the most energy efficient 1 ton window AC from whirlpool and the most energy efficient 1 ton split inverter AC from Daikin (Both are rated 5 stars by BEE)
AC Type | Window AC | Split AC |
---|---|---|
AC Brand | Whirlpool | Daikin |
Annual Power Consumption | 789 kWh | 483 kWh |
Compressor Type | Non Inverter | Inverter |
Compressor Warranty | 5 Years | 10 Years |
AC Cost | Rs 23,990 | Rs 44,700 |
Amazon Link | Amazon | Amazon |
From the above comparison you can see that the split AC offers 10 years of warranty and consumes very less power however the price which you have to pay for a split AC is almost 80% more than what you pay for window AC. So which AC should you buy window or split? lets find out.
When to buy a window air conditioner:
Buying a window AC can be boiled down to three main factors:
- The room where you are going to use your AC: If the AC is being used in a bedroom or private office cabinet where only 2 to 3 people are going to sit/sleep then go for the window AC, as it’s cheap and maintenance free.
- You shift your house every year: If you are a frequent mover then go for window AC as it is small, compact and easy to install.
- The number of operational hours of AC: If the annual operational hours of your AC is going to be less than 1500 hours in a year (4 hours every day) then go with window AC.
Here’s why I say that, from the above table you can see that the 1 ton 5 star window AC from Whirlpool consumes 789 kWh in a year, this translates to average electricity bill of Rs 7,890.(assuming tariff is Rs 10/kWh)
- Cost of AC: Rs 23,990
- Annual Power Consumption: 789
- Annual Electricity Bill: Rs 7,890
Whereas the 1 ton 5 star inverter split AC from Daikin consumes only 483 kWh in a year, this translates to an electricity bill of Rs 4,830. If you do the math the split AC consumes around 40 % less power than the window AC. (Both the power consumption values are calculated for annual 1600 hours of operation)
- Cost of AC: Rs 44,700
- Annual Power Consumption: 483
- Annual Electricity Bill: Rs 4,830
Hence if you install a split AC and your AC’s annual operation hours is 1600, then you can expect savings of Rs 3,000 every year, which means it will take you around 6 – 7 years to recover the additional Rs 20,000 you paid for the split AC.
Hence for case like this where annual operation hours is less (around 1600) it makes total sense to go for a window AC.
If you have switched your mind and want to install a split AC then don’t worry I have made a list of best split AC to buy in India in 2020 just check that out.
Conclusion:
The best window AC to buy in India is the Voltas 1 Ton 5 Star Window AC (Copper, 125 DY/125 DZA) because of it’s low power consumption, amazing amazon reviews and affordable pricing.
