The above power consumption figures are same whether you live in India, US, UK or anywhere else. To calculate the cost to run your air fryer just multiply the power consumption with your electricity tariff.
Air Fryer Power Consumption:
The power consumption of an air fryer (for that matter any electrical appliances) depends upon two main things
- First is the wattage of your air fryer,
- And second is the electricity tariff in your area.
Before we jump in to calculating the power consumption of your air fryer, lets see what these terms are and how you can find out your air fryer wattage and the electricity tariff of your locality.

what is The Wattage of An air fryer:
The wattage of an air fryer varies from 1000 watts to over 2000 watts, the higher the wattage, quicker is the heating and higher is the electricity consumption.
You can find the wattage of your air fryer by reading on the label behind/underneath it or just look for your air fryer on amazon and you will find its wattage in the description section.
(if you don’t want to do this then don’t worry, I have put together a table at the end which shows power consumption of a range of air fryers with different wattage.)
If you don’t know what a watt is then here it is,
Watt is the unit of power. It means the rate at which electricity is consumed or produced by a device.
For example, a 50 watt TV consumes power at a rate of 50 watts per hour, it does not mean that the TV consumed 50 units of electricity, it means it will consume power at a rate of 50 watts every hour.
So in short, the wattage of an air fryer lies between 1000 watts to 2000 watts and you can find it by looking at the label on it. With that out of the way lets look at what is electricity tariff.
What is your Electricity Tariff:
In simple words electricity tariff is the amount your electricity provider charges you for one unit (kWh) of electricity. I live in Mumbai, India here the electricity tariff is Rs 12/kWh.
(What is a Kilowatt hour (kWh) – Kilowatt hours or units of electricity is the energy consumption of a device. For example, a 50 watt table fan running for 50 hours will consume 50 watt x 50 hours = 2500 watt hours = 2.5 kilowatt hours of electricity = 2.5 units of electricity. (1 kWh of electricity = 1 unit of electricity))
To find your electricity tariff, just look into your previous month electricity bill and find out your monthly electricity consumption. Then just divide your monthly electricity consumption with your total monthly electricity bill, the figure you get is approximately your electricity tariff.
If you don’t want to do any of this then just google electricity tariff followed by your location.
Calculate air fryer power consumption:
With these two information in hand you are ready to calculate the power consumption of your air fryer.
Let me show you with an example,
I have selected a 1500 watts air fryer listed on amazon. Let us assume we will be using this for 1 hour every day for an entire year.
Hence, we will calculate the power consumption of this air fryer in a day, in a month and in an entire year.
With the knowledge of your air fryer wattage and your electricity tariff, just use this simple formula to calculate power consumption.
Power consumption of an air fryer = Wattage of an air fryer X operational hours
Cost to run an air fryer = Power consumption of an air fryer X electricity tariff.
(Operational hours is basically the number of hours you are using your air fryer)
Now let’s calculate
Electricity consumption of A 1500 watt air fryer:
Wattage in our case is 1500 watts and operational hours is 1 in a day, 30 in a month and 365 in a year.
Hence by using the above formula.
Power consumption of a 1500 watt air fryer in a day (1hr) = 1500 watt X 1 hour = 1500 watt hour (Wh) = 1.5 kWh
We will convert this 1500 watt hour (Wh) into Kilo watt hour (kWh) as electricity tariffs are given for per kWh. To do this simply divide 1500 by 1000, you will get 1.5 kWh (As 1kg = 1000g, 1km = 1000m, similarly 1kWh = 1000Wh)
Similarly, Power consumption of a 1500 watt air fryer in a month (30 hours) = 1.5 kWh X 30 = 45 kWh
And Power consumption of a 1500 watt air fryer in a year (365 hours) = 1.5 kWh X 365 = 547.5 kWh
Now that we know the power consumption, just multiply it by your electricity tariff and you will get how much it will cost you to run your air fryer.
let’s calculate how much it will cost to run this 1500 watt air fryer for an entire month in Los Angeles, London and in Mumbai.
- In case of Los Angeles, the electricity tariff in Los Angeles is around 25.8 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh), hence it will cost around $ 11.61 (45 kWh X 25.8 cents) to run this 1500 watt air fryer for 1 hour everyday throughout the month.
- In case of London, the electricity tariff in London is around 36p/kWh , hence it will cost around £ 16.2 (45 kWh X 36p/kWh) to run this 1500 watt air fryer for 1 hour everyday throughout the month.
- In case of Mumbai, the electricity tariff in Mumbai is around Rs 10 per kilowatt hour (kWh), hence it will cost around Rs 450 (45 kWh X Rs 10) to run this 1500 watt air fryer for 1 hour everyday throughout the month.
For your reference, I have calculated the cost to run this 1500 watt air fryer for 1 hour/day for the entire month and the entire year in Los Angeles, London and Mumbai.

After seeing the above results, it safe to say air fryers consume a lot of electricity if used on a frequent basis.
But most of us don’t use our air fryers everyday for an hour, hence the actual power consumption will be much less.

As you can see from the above table, if you use a 10 litre, 1800 watts air fryer for 1 hour every day throughout the year, the total power consumption is around 657 kWh.
This mean in Los Angeles it will cost $ 169.50 (657 kWh X cents 25.8/ kWh), in London it will cost £ 236.52 (657 kWh X pence 36/ kWh), and in Mumbai it will cost Rs 6,570 (657 kWh X Rs 10/ kWh) to run this 1800 watts air fryer for 1 hour everyday for the entire year.

A 4 liter air fryer is normally rated between 1300 watts to 1500 watts. A 1500 watt air fryer running for 1 hour every day will consume around 45 kWh of electricity in a month which adds upto 547.5 kWh of electricity in a year.
Convection ovens generally have large volume (>20 liters) and are designed to cook large quantity of food especially when comparted to an air fryer which are generally between 5 to 10 liters.
A 20 liter convection oven is normally rated at 1000 Watts and a 4 liter air fryer is rated at 1000 watts.
Hence, if you are cooking small quantity of food then air fryer will cook it much faster than an oven hence the power consumption will be less.
But, if we increase the food quantity, now you have to cook twice or thrice in your air fryer to cook the same food which a convection oven can cook in one go. Hence, convection oven will consume less electricity.
To sum up, it’s safe to say if you are cooking small quantity of food then air fryer will consume less electricity and for larger quantity convection oven will consume less electricity.
